A light spring color palette is made of light, gently warm colors with a fresh, clear quality, like peach, butter yellow, mint and clear aqua. It suits people whose coloring is mostly light with a warm lean, such as light golden hair and light eyes. Heavy, dark and muted colors tend to overpower this season.

Every swatch shows its name and hex code. Screens vary, so these are illustrative, and fabric or makeup in daylight is the real test.

Use these palettes as a starting point, not a verdict. Lighting and your screen settings both shape what you see, and an in-person consultation with a trained artist is the best way to confirm what flatters you.

What is a Light Spring?

Light Spring is the lightest and most delicate of the Spring seasons. The main quality is lightness: hair is often light golden blonde, strawberry blonde or light brown with warm glints, eyes are often light blue, aqua, light green or golden hazel, and skin usually reads light with a warm or peachy lean. Contrast between hair, skin and eyes tends to be low to medium.

The warmth is real but gentle. A Light Spring isn’t as golden as a Warm Spring, and isn’t as vivid as a Bright Spring. What most people notice is that light, warm colors make their skin look fresh and rested, while dark colors near the face can make them look tired or washed out by comparison.

The light spring color palette, color by color

The core colors are where to start. Pale Peach and Soft Apricot are the classic Light Spring shades, warm and soft enough to wear head to toe. Pale Buttercream and Soft Lemon bring a sunny lift without the weight of a deep gold. Pale Mint and Soft Teal add a fresh, clean coolness that still has a touch of yellow in it, and Pale Sky gives you a light, clear blue for denim days. Soft Rose is the pink in the set, warm leaning and pretty rather than icy.

All eight sit in the same lightness band, which is why they mix so easily. You can pair almost any two of them and the outfit holds together, a big part of why many Light Springs find their wardrobe feels effortless once they shop inside this range.

Neutrals and accents for Light Spring

Instead of black and stark white, Light Spring neutrals are Ivory, Cream, a light Taupe and a soft Slate blue gray. Ivory works where you’d normally reach for white, and Slate replaces black for trousers, coats and bags without feeling heavy. Cream and Taupe are lovely for knitwear and suiting.

The accents are the clearest, strongest colors in the set: Clear Red, a warm coral red, Clear Teal, Clear Marigold and Clear Azure. Use them in small doses, like a lip color, a scarf or a statement earring, so they lift the softer core colors rather than taking over.

Building outfits from the palette

An easy formula is one neutral, one core color and one small accent. Cream trousers, a Pale Mint top and Clear Marigold earrings, or a Slate dress with a Soft Apricot cardigan and a Clear Red lip, both look pulled together without trying. Keep the lightest color nearest your face when you can, since that’s where Light Spring coloring shows best. Prints work well too when the background is light and the motifs are small and clear rather than large and heavy.

Makeup ideas for a Light Spring

Light Springs usually look best in makeup that’s light and luminous. Peach and apricot blush, warm pink lips and soft coral glosses tend to look natural, while deep plum, brick and heavy brown lipsticks can look heavy. For eyes, try champagne, soft gold, warm taupe and light bronze shadows, with brown or soft brown-black liner instead of jet black.

A dewy or satin skin finish often suits this season better than a very matte one, because light coloring reads fresh when it has a little glow. When choosing foundation, many Light Springs find warm or peach undertone shades blend most invisibly, but always test on your jawline in daylight.

Hair color ideas for Light Spring

Many Light Springs look great with light golden blonde, honey, strawberry blonde or light caramel brown, with soft warm highlights around the face. Very ashy, icy platinum or very dark shades can drain light, warm coloring, though there are always exceptions.

If you’re thinking about a change before an event, ask your colorist for a test, and give yourself time to adjust if the new shade isn’t quite right. Our wedding beauty timeline planner can help you place the color appointment.

A light spring color palette for your wedding

For brides, Light Spring coloring pairs beautifully with ivory or warm white gowns rather than stark optical white. Peach, blush and apricot florals, champagne and soft gold jewelry, and bridesmaids in Pale Peach, Soft Lemon or Pale Mint all echo the palette.

For bridal makeup, think glowing skin, peach cheeks, softly defined eyes in champagne and light bronze, and a warm pink lip. Our bridal makeup service builds looks around your own coloring, and the hair and makeup trial run is the place to fine-tune it in real light.

Colors to be careful with

The colors to be careful with for Light Spring are dark and heavy: Muted Espresso, Dark Aubergine, Dark Navy and a near-black Muted Terracotta. They aren’t forbidden. They simply have far more depth than your coloring, so they can look heavy near your face. If you love one of them, wear it away from your face, like in trousers or shoes, and keep a Light Spring color near your face.

Very dusty, grayed colors can also look a little flat, because they lack the freshness Light Springs usually shine in.

Light Spring or Light Summer?

These two are the most often confused, because both are light. The difference is temperature. Light Spring leans warm, so peach, apricot and butter yellow look fresh, and gold jewelry often looks better than silver. Light Summer leans cool, so powder blue, lavender and rose pink look more natural, and silver often wins.

A quick test is to hold Pale Peach and a cool powder pink near your face in daylight. If the peach makes your skin look even and rosy, Light Spring is likely. If the pink looks better and the peach makes you look sallow, have a look at the light summer color palette.

Frequently asked questions

What colors look best on a Light Spring?

Light, warm and fresh colors like peach, apricot, butter yellow, mint and clear aqua usually look best. They match the lightness and gentle warmth of Light Spring coloring.

Can a Light Spring wear black?

Black usually looks heavy next to light, warm coloring, so Slate or soft navy is a gentler swap. If you love black, wear it away from your face and add a light color near your face.

Is silver or gold better for a Light Spring?

Gold, rose gold and champagne metals often look best because they echo your warmth. Silver can work too when it’s soft and brushed rather than bright and icy.

What lipstick suits a Light Spring?

Warm pinks, peach, soft coral and light warm nudes are good starting points. Deep berry and brown lipsticks can look heavy on light coloring.
